Audition Information Page

Auditions will be held by appointment with Dr. Banks during the month of April 2009 through early May.  Auditions will be held in Dr. Banks's office, Swearingen Hall (BBS) 318, above the Harrison Theatre entrance on the north (campus quad) side of the building.

You may make an appointment by coming by the office and signing for a time, or by calling 726-2486,
        or by emailing tpbanks@samford.edu .

The audition consists of:

        1)    a vocal range check;

        2)    singing an unaccompanied version of a hymn or folksong (of your choice);

        3)    a melodic recall check;

        4)    a sightsinging check.

Auditions will continue through the month of April, with a projected announcement of next year's choir personnel
        by late May or early June.

Admission to the A Cappella Choir is by audition only, with membership open to any major (not only music majors)
        based upon musicianship, academic standing, and character.

Admission to the Choir is contingent upon an understanding of a year-long commitment, not by single semester.
        The A Cappella Choir will be re-auditioned each academic year.  Upperclassmen are give preference,
            but incoming students and freshmen are encouraged to apply.

Additional financial requirements will be spelled out in written form to those admitted to next year's choir.
        These will include:  the cost of the annual rehearsal retreat (on the Labor Day weekend), formal concert attire,
        and possible touring costs for certain pre-agreed national and/or international concert tours.
