Attendance Policy
The key to your success is attendance and participation. You are expected to be in your seat on time every day. Since questions on position papers, essays, and exams will be drawn heavily from lectures, class discussions, films, and activities, it is clearly to the students' advantage to attend class. Borderline students will be given the benefit of the doubt with excellent attendance.
Attendance will be taken every day. Consistent lateness will result in a lowering of the student's overall grade (two times late = one absence). If you are more than ten minutes late to class you will be counted absent.Students missing six classes in a Monday-Wednesday-Friday section or four classes in a Tuesday-Thursday section will receive an automatic F in the course. Students who miss classes will be penalized on a graduatedscale: Three absences in a Monday-Wednesday-Friday section or two absences in a Tuesday-Thursday section will result in a lowering of the student's final grade one letter grade; four/five absences in a Monday-Wednesday-Friday section or three absences in a Tuesday-Thursday section will result in a lowering of the student's final grade two letter grades.
Note: This policy will be strictly enforced. No exceptions.
Assignments and Makeup Work
All daily writing assignments (journals), weekly writing assignments (Position Papers, Discussion Points, Worksheets, Evaluation Papers, Observation Papers) and research papers are due at the beginning of class on the days specified. No late work will be accepted. Students that hand in a late paper will receive an automatic (59) "F". Students that fail to hand ina paper at all will receive a (0) "F". Students missing an exam with an acceptable excuse will be permitted to make-up the missed exam during the last week of the course.
