Survey of Audubon Wildlife Sanctuary

C.  WILDFLOWERS AND OTHER HERBACEOUS PLANTS

A total of 69 wild flowers in bloom was recorded during the time of study in April and early May. Forty were found in the field area, four in the lowland woods and 29 in the highland woods. A quadrat measuring 4 X 12 meters was laid out in the sunny part of the cut field opposite to the entrance of a feeder stream into Shades Creek (see Fig. 1 Map). The dominant quadrat field flowers were daisy fleabanes, ground ivy and Indian strawberry. In addition, other plants and shrubs in the quadrate and in other areas of the field were noted.
