| Dr. Blanchard is a recipient of the John H. Buchanan Award for Teaching Excellence at Samford University. He was presented a silver tray and $1,000 check at the school's semester-opening convocation on August 29, 2000. According to Samford's Associate Provost, Dr. Joe Lewis, Dr. Blanchard "invests generously in students, both in and out of the classroom." Blanchard joined Samford's faculty in 1990. His credentials include the B.S. and M.P.A. from Auburn University at Montgomery; B.A. from Union College; M.B.A. from University of Missouri; and Ph.D. from University of Alabama at Birmingham. He also spent 20 years on active duty in the U.S. Air Force, including one year in Southeast Asia, three tours in strategic missile operations and an extended tour as a faculty member of the Air Command and Staff College.
